Ryan Woodcock is managing partner and co-founder of CruzWood Communications, a sports and lifestyle PR firm that was established in 2010.   Woodcock has more than 18 years of experience in the sports communications field in many different capacities that include stints with the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers and Denver Nuggets, at the University of New Mexico on the collegiate level, and for more than 20 PGA TOUR and LPGA TOUR golf tournaments.

As managing partner of CruzWood, Woodcock handles the day-to-day operations of the firm and handles all client activity including PR and media relations, publicity, social media, website management, writing, and digital content strategy.  He currently leads all PR activities as the Director of Communications for the Waste Management Phoenix Open where he is responsible for all internal and external communications for the PGA TOUR’s most attended golf event, as well as handling media relations, credentialing, corporate communications, social media and website content creation, publications, photography and videography.

Woodcock is a graduate of ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Public Relations.  He also serves as an adjunct faculty member at ASU’s Cronkite School where he teaches strategic sports communications.

Gary Cruz left a 29-year career in sports broadcaster to team up with Woodcock to start CruzWood Communications.  In October of 2017, Gary was diagnosed with cancer and he lost his battle with the deadly disease on March 8, 2018. Gary Cruz is a former television sports anchor, play-by-play announcer, show host and public speaker for over 3 decades. During the course of his television career, Gary traveled the world for coverage of major sporting events which included Super Bowls, NBA Championships, World Series, College and Professional Football, PGA and U.S. Open championships and much more.

In 1989 he traveled to Melbourne, Australia to do play by play for the American Bowl College Classic featuring Colorado State University and Brigham Young University. His play by play travels took him to Sao Paulo, Brazil for a pay-per-view Mixed Martial Arts world wide telecast. Cruz has also traveled to Japan several times for pay-per-view telecasts of K-1 Championship tournaments worldwide.

From 1990 to 1997 Gary hosted the L.A. Lakers Pre-Game show on KCAL TV Los Angeles, working with NBA broadcasting legend, Chick Hearn. Cruz’s television Sportscasting career began in Denver, CO with stops in Los Angeles and Phoenix, AZ. Along the way he developed unique relationships with prominent athletes, entertainers, business leaders, politicians, major corporations and small businesses. His business resume includes part ownership in Morton-Apollo Travel, partnering with former NFL quarterback Craig Morton in the 1980’s.

Lulu Woodcock is the brains behind the CruzWood operations, handling everything from HR, accounting, business development, collating, nap time, barking, sniffing, snarfing, chewing, car riding and tail wagging.  She has a work hard, play hard, sleep hard attitude, and despite her innocent eyes, she can really crack the whip for what ever project team CruzWood needs to handle.  

She is a graduate of the Petsmart puppy program and is currently working on her”DOG”torate in Animal and Human Relations.  LOU is an avid Notre Dame and Green Bay Packers fan, as well as any team with a Bulldog Mascot.  Her favorite movies include “Homeward Bound” and “Rock Dog”, and she has an extensive readying library filled with classics like “Go Dog Go”, “The Poky Little Puppy”, “The Genius of Dogs” and anything by John Grisham or Malcolm Gladwell.  You can follow LuLu on instagram @the-lou_life – The Chronicles of a very busy American Bulldog, or check out Lou’s Blog here
